It’s no secret. With my busy schedule I’m having a really hard time getting a “workout” into my routine. But I also know being “busy” is an excuse for not doing something I know I want to be doing. SO. It’s time to break down what’s really happening here.
Have you ever said any of these things to yourself?
1) Sometimes I want to do ANYTHING but workout.
2) The idea of feeling sore or tired after a workout makes me want to sit here and pick the lint off of my sweater- a very important task!
3) My deadlines come first! I have to get my work done…. right?
4) I feel like I can’t get motivated to exercise. You couldn’t pay me to be motivated! Seriously!
5) I’ll go later today….. or….. I’ll go tomorrow, for SURE.
Well, I’ve been saying all of these things to myself the past 6 weeks, and I thought is was high time I busted through whatever these roadblocks are. Below is what I’m saying to myself this week:
1) Yes, I may not want to workout in the moment. But I know when I don’t workout I’m not as efficient in whatever I’m doing post- workout. My mental focus isn’t as acute, my stamina isn’t as strong, and I don’t feel like I’m living the extraordinary life I want to be living.
2) This excuse of not wanting to be sore…I don’t have to workout until I’m sore! But I can go break a sweat and shake the cobwebs off. And I can do this in a variety of creative and fun ways- a sure way to get a little sparkle going…
3) Yes, meeting deadlines is very important. And so is living life and feeling good. I feel more ALIVE when I exercise, especially when it’s a form of exercise I adore, like yoga, dance, cycling, running, pilates and…. there are so many! And, all work and no play makes Jane a dull girl.
4) Motivation comes and goes, and some times it’s harder to come by than others. The kind of exercise I’ve been thinking about doing isn’t INSPIRING me. So, I have to find a form of movement that feels good and inspires me to WANT to do it. I just discovered a “Core Conditioning” class at my gym that I LOVE. So I will start there.
5) I have to set aside time in my schedule to exercise- literally schedule it in every day. If I don’t exercise in the mornings before work (sometimes even before walking the dog), it just doesn’t happen. This wasn’t always the case, but it’s very true for me today. So, mornings it is!
I want to feel excited to go to the gym, instead of feeling like I have to drag myself there. I’ll keep you posted about how I’m doing with this, and I’ll continue to share my tips about what works, and what doesn’t. For me, it’s about being joyful and feeling good. Because life is just too short for anything else!
