Self-care has become a catch-all phrase for all things bubble baths, pedicures, and facials (and don’t get me wrong – I love all of these things!!).
But real, deep self-care? That happens in the small, everyday choices we make that stem from the quality of our relationship with ourselves.
That relationship with ourselves is everything.
When our relationship with ourselves is built on judgment, demands, withholding, punishment, or neglect, we might feel like self-care is too much – or that we’re not even worthy of it.
We push harder, sleep less, overcommit, under-nourish, and expect our bodies to keep up.
We force ourselves into grueling workouts, count every calorie, and chase an image of what we should be, rather than listening to what we actually need.
From this place, we’re not caring for our bodies – we’re trying to control them.
The biggest form of self-care I see women needing today? Repairing their relationship with their bodies.
Would you stay friends with someone who constantly criticized you? Called you names? Ignored your needs? Made promised, only to break them, and then blame you for it?
That is NO friend.
So, be honest.
How much of a friend are you being to your body?
Are you giving her the sleep she requires to thrive? Or are you asking her to perform on fumes?
Are you nourishing her with enough food and hydration? Or are you setting rigid rules that keep her deprived?
Are you moving her in ways that feel good and build strength? Or are you punishing her into submission?
Are you clothing her in ways that make her feel comfortable and beautiful? Or are you withholding joy and comfort until she is a smaller size?
Your body is your home. Your relationship with her sets the tone for everything else in your life.
It’s time to be a better friend to – to yourself.
You wouldn’t tear down a friend. You wouldn’t demand she work to be worthy of care.
You wouldn’t ignore her needs or speak to her with cruelty. So why do it to yourself?
If you’re ready to change the way you care for yourself – beyond trends, quick fixes and external pressures – let’s talk.
