This time of year can be so cray-cray. So, I thought I’d share one of my favorite and most effective ways of navigating the holidays season while honoring myself as fully as possible.
Let’s face it – the holidays can be a mixed bag.
So often, there are things you look forward to… and others you dread.
There are gatherings and invitations that feel light and exciting, and others that feel heavy and obligatory.
There can be high hopes and deep disappointments for young and old alike.
The final weeks of the year can be a rollercoaster of emotion if you don’t know what you want to experience.
So often during the holidays we go into a default mode and override how we’re feeling.
We eat too much, sleep to little, drink too much, exercise too little… everything gets flip flopped, and we wind up feeling trashed come January 1st.
I used to do this every year, and I hated how I felt.
I avoid this self-inflicted chaos by being intentional with how I organize and orchestrate the finals weeks of the year.
I’ve gotten into the habit of creating a theme for myself around the holidays.
My theme becomes my guide and helps me to make choices, plan adventures, and be very intentional in how I live into the final weeks of every year.
This year my theme is SIMPLE.
From holiday decorations, to shopping, to the activities my son and I are participating in, to how I spend money… everything is imbued with this one word – simple.
And I am LOVING IT.
It’s not too late! You can create your own holiday theme, too.
It can really shift how well you honor yourself from now until the end of the year.
Here is how I create my holiday theme:
- I feel into what my body needs – rest, connection, fun, warmth, light, touch, etc.
- I listen to the desires that are in my heart – what experiences do I crave?
- I feel into how much energy I have – I don’t want to fuel exhaustion; I want to fuel LIFE!
- I choose a theme that is in alignment with all the above
Taking a few minutes to gather yourself and get clear on what you desire, what you’re a clear YES to, and what you are a resounding NO to can help so much.
This way, when the New Year arrives, you’ll still be living in alignment with your values, your priorities, and all that you know is best for you.
You won’t have to work so hard to “get back on track” with healthy habits and all you usually do to feel good.
What will your theme be this year?
How will your theme support you in having the best holiday season yet?
Lots of love,
Alicia
