Have you ever been given (gently, or not so) a suggestion of what you should do with your…

And more?
These kinds of suggestions are often offered in the spirit of “I want what’s best for you”.
If we’re not clear on what we want for ourselves,
or what is best for us,
or if we doubt what we know and what we want,
or fear what other people will think, or how they will react if we choose what we know and want…
… The easiest thing to do is to go along with what someone else believes is best for us.
But sometimes – dare I say most times – what someone else wants for us, best for us or not, may not be what we want for ourselves. It may not be what we know is best for us, either.
This is tricky stuff!
Can you see how easy it is to get caught up in the habit of looking outside of yourself for answers? We’ve been taught to make other people the experts of our bodies, our finances, and our very lives. It’s no wonder being true to yourself is such a challenge.
I think it’s great to ask for an opinion or another viewpoint, but handing over life’s bigger decisions to someone else is much like handing them the pen when you’re writing the story of you.
So how do you choose for yourself in a world that insists it knows better than you do?
The only way to choose for yourself is to turn inward and ask listen to the innate wisdom that lives inside of you.
This wisdom has many voices. It only speaks truth, and it only delivers it to you in the most self-respecting, self-honoring ways.
You may have other not-so-kind voices that talk to you – voices that feel painful and say devastating things to you. To be clear, they are not your innate wisdom speaking. Innate wisdom feels good when you hear it. In fact, it’s your greatest ally.
The truth is that when you learn to listen to your innate wisdom, and when you begin to honor yourself, some people are going to get triggered. They’re used to you being a certain way, doing the things you’ve always done, and playing a specific, familiar role in their lives. When you change, that changes. There will be ripple effects, and people will feel them.
But here is what you will gain:
- You will like and respect yourself more
- You will be more free to express, create, fail, rebuild, play, enjoy
- The people who want to control you in the name of “what’s best for you” will have to find something or someone else to control
Your innate wisdom is your internal GPS system that knows who you are and what is best for you. The expert is NOT someone else. It is, and always will be, you.
A great place to begin connecting with your innate wisdom is to start listening to your body. This is because your body is connected, very intimately, with your innate wisdom – your one, true, internal GPS system. When you tune into your body as a way to connect to your inner knowing, it can help you immensely.
How does your body feel?
What does it want?
Are its needs being met by you?
What would support it in being its very best?
Because what is good for your body is good for all of you. The information your body gives you is always true. It’s incapable of lying to you. So, start there.
Start tuning into the wisdom of your body as a way to access your higher wisdom so you can make the best choices for you.
