As the pace of life begins to speed up, and opportunities to resume pre-pandemic life return, it’s the perfect time to check in and assess some super important things from a place of honesty and truth.
Before you re-engage with life, you get to remember that you’ve seen, felt and experienced things that have changed you.
You are different. I am different. We are all different.
And so, as tempting as it might be to return to your former “normal”, why not take a few moments to ask yourself:
- Does my life support and nurture my health and happiness?
- Am I spending my time doing things that light me up?
- Are there things in my life that I want to let go of?
- If I’m completely honest, are there things about my life that I want to change or do differently?
Right now, you have an opportunity to step back for a moment and take a snapshot of your life – your work, your relationships, your home, where you live, what you do, how you feel…
And ask yourself, “Do I like what I see? Do I like this view?”
Because it’s your life. Your precious, significant, amazing life.
It’s not for anyone else. Nobody knows what fills your heart with joy, satisfaction and pride like you do. Nobody else can determine that for you – that’s yours to figure out and follow.
So…
Take a moment and breathe.
Put aside everybody else’s expectations and judgments.
Let go of any fear in your heart that worries what others might say or think about you.
Release any false belief that you’re behind, or that you should be further along.
Let go of any notion that your life, your timeline, and your achievements are supposed to look like anyone else’s.
Instead, get real with yourself about what matters most to you.
Decide what success looks and feels like for you.
Define freedom for yourself in a way only you can.
And then give yourself permission, and time, and space to do more, and more, and more of those things.
You might think of a bajillion reason why you can’t. Your current life, and everyone in it will likely show you all of the very reasonable, justifiable, rational reasons why you “have to” maintain status quo.
That super unhelpful inner voice might rear its ugly head and choose to let you know, in no uncertain terms, how inconvenient and awful and selfish it is of you to do anything for yourself.
Who are you to want that anyway?
Nobody lives like that.
You can’t have what you really want.
That’s just crazy talk.
Or is it?
Aligning your life away from what drains and depletes you and towards all that feels good and true and wonderful to you, might make you worry and question and go back and forth about how crazy it is to try and live a life that you love.
But here is the thing: our lives are a compilation of the choices we have made over time. From how we make a living, to the relationships we engage in, to where we live, how well we care for our bodies and what we believe is possible for us.
All of these things are the result of a choice that we made at some point, given the options that we saw were available to us at the time.
Sometimes those choices were very deliberate and intentional. In other instances, those choices came out of a reaction, or a habit, or a longstanding pattern, or an outdated belief.
It’s important to remember that if a choice you made at some point has become toxic, or drains and depletes you, or simply feels awful to you, you can choose something different for yourself.
You have an incredible opportunity to do just that, right now.
So, take a moment. Assess. Reflect. FEEL.
And then choose what feels good. Even if it doesn’t make sense. Even if you have no idea why. Even if you feel crazy or stupid or selfish or wrong.
What you feel is important. Feeling good is essential in these times we are living in.
Even though you’ve been taught to deny, ignore, override and mistrust the things that feel good to you, I invite you to do something radical and revolutionary for yourself.
As we step into and start creating this new world, I invite you to do the unthinkable.
Loosen your grip on the old ‘no pain – no gain’ mentality. Question why you’re sacrificing so much of your precious energy and time on things that you abhor. Envision a new way forward for yourself, where you get to be honest and healthy and happy and alive.
This is your life, and it gets to be amazing! xx
