I used to wait for hard evidence that something was possible. Even when it came to things I felt fairly confident I could handle, there was always a part of me that wanted proof. I used to think “show me that it can be done” or “tell me how it’s going to happen” – as if having that kind of evidence was going to mean that I’d avoid failure and always be a success.
But the thing that I’ve learned over time is that there are no guarantees or definite outcomes when it comes to this journey that we’re all on together. Life is a lot like a box of chocolates. You really never know what you’re going to get.
So if you’re waiting for a guarantee, I want you to consider this: What would it be like to wake up each morning and know exactly what your day was going to be like?
What if there were no surprises, no new discoveries, and no new adventures waiting for you? How would it make you feel if each and every day was exactly the same?
There is so much to be gained by changing up your routine, trying something new, and daring to be different. New insights and awarenesses await. New friendships and lovers beckon. New parts of yourself are ready to emerge and introduce themselves to you.
This adventure can be as fabulous as you will allow it to be!
So if you doubt yourself, or if you’re telling yourself that you can’t, or you don’t know how, or you’re scared that you might fail…. Horribly….
You’re in good company!
Can you let yourself doubt, and do it anyway?
In 2010 I enrolled in a gourmet raw food chef certification course. I knew about as much about holding a knife and flavor balancing as my 11-month old son does. I was incredibly nervous. I didn’t know anyone, and I wasn’t even entirely certain what I was going to do with my certification if I made it through the course. Part of me thought I had gone a bit wacko. And part of me was thrilled by the opportunity.
I jumped! I did it anyway. And I loved every minute of it.
And now I have the privilege of sharing my expertise with others, of delighting my friends and family with gorgeous recipes and meals that we share, and of always having that reference point – that time in my life when I seriously doubted myself, and came out the other side smiling from ear to ear.
What dream or new adventure are you putting off because you’re waiting for a guarantee?
