Every woman has a dream – often many dreams. You’re born with them inside of you. And if you can recall what you liked or were interested in, even as a young girl, my guess is that those things flowed directly from your dreams, too.
And then, life happened. You took on the fears, beliefs and stories of the adults around you. Perhaps you let yourself forget about, let go of, or dismiss those dreams that were so vibrant and alive when you were young. Maybe you squirreled them away, in some dark corner inside of yourself where they could remain safe from outside criticism, judgment and fear.
Fast-forward 10, 20, maybe 40 years to today, and you might tend to those dreams that have been squirreled away on occasion. Maybe you take a weekend seminar, or a 2-hour workshop that helps you dive deeply into that unrealized dream. But then, after that weekend or workshop, back on the shelf it goes.
For many women, even these brief moments of dancing with their dreams never happen.
There are many reasons why your dreams might have never seen the light of day. The fears, beliefs and stories you tell yourself about what might or might not happen for you play an enormous role in this. But so does something else.
For most women, myself included, the timing of things is a key piece. The most common thing I hear women say about why they can’t have their dreams is, “It’s not a good time for that.” We are so busy, our lives are so incredibly full, and our list of responsibilities and to-dos is always 4 miles long. The “I don’t have time for that” excuse seems really reasonable and true when you say it to yourself.
But I’ve been thinking about something else for you to consider.
How do you know that now isn’t a good time for your dream? How do you know what might or might not happen? What could come rushing to meet you when you create the time and space for your dreams? The only way to discover these answers is to try, and see.
I’ve shared my dream about creating art and having an actual art show at a gallery, complete with an opening night, hors d’oeuvres and something sparkling in a tall stemmed glass. I see myself wearing a gorgeous dress and a sexy pair of shoes, feeling radiant and alive as these heartfelt expressions of my soul grace the gallery walls.
But there never seems to be the ‘right time’ for this, in my life. I’ve taken a very long look at this, I’ve questioned the stories I tell myself about it, and I am putting a plan into action to shift this for myself because I know that when I choose to take bold and inspired action towards my desires, everything else shifts.
This is true for everyone, without exception.
What if those very good excuses are just stories that you’re telling yourself? What if it’s just fear of the unknown talking? What if the very things that you desire and long for are simply waiting for you to take action so that they can come to you?
It’s so easy to shelve your dreams – in fact, completely socially acceptable to do this, It’s the norm. It’s easy to come up with really great excuses for why you can’t have your desires, or do them now. And like nearly everyone you know, you may have gotten really good at convincing yourself that your reasoning is completely justifiable, makes perfect sense and is the most rational things you’ve thought or said in years.
But my experience and the wisdom of my heart know something different. They know that when I get really clear in myself about what it is that I desire to have or do or experience; when I make myself and my dreams a serious priority in my life; when I take inspired action towards the manifestation of my dreams and desires… something miraculous and magical always happens.
The entire Universe conspires to make certain that I receive exactly what I require.
The journey and the outcome is always more perfect than I could have ever imagined it could be.
So what dreams are you squirreling away? And what needs to happen inside of you to let those dreams see the light of day and become a priority in your life?
