During my holiday retreat from the world I took 7 days to really clear out a lot of clutter from my life and home. I spent about an hour every day going through paperwork, placing things in piles and carting bags of “stuff” to a local charity. So many people I know were inspired to do the same thing – in the US, England, Canada and beyond – which leaves me wondering, what are we all preparing for?
The truth is, we have to make space in our lives for something new to come in. We have to empty out the things that have been taking up the space and time that something else requires. We have to get clean and clear about what we desire and what we no longer need. From that place of clarity and spaciousness it’s much easier to invite that something new over to wherever we are.
Here are before and after photos of my desk. And I’m happy to say my desk is still clean and clear and organized. I am committed to this feeling throughout 2014 because I know it will inform my work in truly beautiful ways that were never possible when there were 4,000 sticky notes on my desk!
What do you desire to invite into your life this year? And what needs to be cleaned and cleared in order to make space for it?
