A detox is a process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances.
I, myself, have done countless detoxes – some of them for my physical body, some for my home, and some for my mental and emotional health (as in, detoxing from social media, unhealthy relationships, abstaining from screens in general, or from mainstream news).
When you remove anything that is “competing” for your health – junk food, too much alcohol, over-the-counter drugs or other mind-altering substances, too much screen time, too much negativity – it allows your vitality to rise, unimpeded.
In essence, detoxing from unhealthy substances of any kind is a way to let health reign.
So, what is the best detox you could ever do?
The best, and perhaps the most important detox you could ever do, has less to do with detoxing the things that are outside of you, and much more to do with detoxing a very powerful and subtle thing that lives inside of you.
Here is what I mean: What is the thing inside of you that resonates with…
Feeding yourself junk food
Drinking too much alcohol
Staying in toxic relationships
Postponing much needed pleasure
Pushing yourself to a point of depletion
Trying to gain the approval of others
Being stingy with yourself
Allowing someone to belittle, gaslight or diminish you
Neglecting your sleep, exercise and self-care needs…?
This silent, toxic substance – a confused and outdated aspect of you – lives in mediocrity, struggle, needing you to prove your worth, and maintaining the current lackluster state of affairs.
The essential detox I’m talking about focuses on cleansing and detoxing that part of you that resonates with the toxicity in your life. Because when you resonate with something, you give it a green light to exist in your world.
Take a look around your life. Where are there toxic habits, coping mechanisms, relationships, belief systems and patterns? Then ask yourself…
What is it in me that is giving these things permission to be here?
What is it in me that agrees this can happen?
What is it in me that just goes along with these things that I know aren’t good for me?
What is it in me that silently condones and ignores and numbs out to and allows these unhealthy things to even exist in my world?
Find the part of you that is doing all of this allowing, condoning, agreeing, ignoring, numbing and tolerating, and you will find the part of you that needs a thorough detox.
The real you – the one that’s healthy, full of vitality and so, so wise – knows her happiness, fulfillment and success get to happen when she no longer resonates with self-sacrifice, self-abandonment, self-punishment and doubt.
Detoxing this part of you that has been agreeing to mediocrity and struggle will allow the strong, clear, shameless part of you to RISE, live into her joy, and create a masterpiece out of her life in the exact way she’s always wanted to.
We need to see more women living into their powerful, toxin-free, authentic selves and their joy-inducing dreams.
