There is a lot swirling around and inside of us right now. Are you letting yourself feel it?
Numbness.
Resentment.
Anger.
Rage.
Blame.
Pain.
Bargaining.
Fear.
Guilt.
Shame.
Depression.
Purposelessness.
Brain fog.
Confusion.
Emptiness.
Sadness.
Maybe not all at once, but in moments, here and there?
We’re all navigating this time as best as we can.
Sometimes we feel like bad a$$es, and sometimes we feel like five-year-olds that just need to throw a tantrum and maybe even break some things.
Sometimes we want to wallow and sulk and give in to inertia. And sometimes we can’t wait to organize and systematize and focus the fire we feel in our bellies into a passion or a project.
Don’t be fooled into believing that your very powerful human emotions aren’t important, or some sign that you’re just a hot mess that’s failing in this profoundly uncomfortable moment in time.
There is no right or wrong way to navigate what we’re all going through right now. There isn’t a more “enlightened” way, or a more “evolved” way, either.
But there is a way through this that will either work for you, or it will work against you.
Which way are you walking right now?
When we are faced with the unknown and everything we’ve clung to is falling away – our work, our well-worn identities, our finances, our physical connection to others, our day-to-day freedoms – it’s normal and healthy to cringe, contract, and even fall apart.
But running from our emotions creates tension and anxiety in our bodies. It’s one more thing we have to try and push down. It takes a lot of life force to try to suppress and cover up what we’re feeling.
Any ounce of your vitality that’s being spent on anything other than honoring yourself and how you’re really feeling is working against you. It’s draining your strength, your clarity and your ability to feel your life.
Because if we want to live extraordinary, joyful and fulfilling lives, we have to be willing to feel it all. Not just the good stuff, but the hard stuff, too.
Have you let yourself feel the full experience of everything that’s happening right now?
Have you let yourself be angry about it? Scream and punch and fling obscenities around the room (or into a pillow if you don’t want your young ones to hear)?
Have you let yourself feel the deep, unrelenting sadness and reality of what is changing, and how it’s affecting you?
Have you let yourself get low, depressed, and purposeless… even if only for a few moments, or hours, or even a few days?
It’s healthy to go through the chaotic stages of grief and loss – to let yourself feel all of it, sometimes a new stage every minute. Because it’s real.
Your feelings are a reminder of a powerful truth that is living inside of you. They’re and normal and healthy and important. They deserve your trust, your respect, and your attention.
And… I know how easy it is to want to distract and numb and distance yourself from all that you’re feeling. Our whole culture is set up to help us dull and deaden our emotions.
I’m here to invite you to let yourself go there. Let yourself feel it. Even if all you do is dip your toe into it for a moment here, and a moment there, let yourself feel what is happening. Let yourself get present with the you that is grieving the loss of so much.
Why?
Because that’s where your power is.
That’s where you will be able to soothe the parts of yourself that are hurting right now, and maybe even reclaim the parts of yourself that were lost long before this planetary upheaval began.
Some of the most powerful work we will ever do as women happens when everything is falling apart.
When it feels like we, and everything we’ve known will be blown away by the tsunami of emotion that we’re feeling, THIS is when we have to trust that it is just a wave that will wash over us, cleanse us even, and then flow through.
Turn towards the wave.
You won’t get caught in the undertow of it. You will resurface. And when you do, you will be left with a fresh perspective that is so needed today…. For yourself, for those you love, for those you’re here to contribute to, and for the entire world, too.
I now it’s scary. I know it may not be how you’ve done things in the past. But you’ve got this.
The world needs powerful, awake and aware women now more than ever.
So, feel it. Stand in your power. Let yourself be moved and transformed by all that’s happening.
And then together, let’s channel our collective strengths into creating what we want to see in the world.
Together, let’s stand in our truth and create the revolution we’ve been waiting for.
