There is a lot happening in our world today. SO much of it is inspiring and beautiful and such a joy to see. And… right now there are a lot of things that can easily drown out all of that goodness if we let it.
How are you doing with all of the panic and fear that’s super loud in the world today?
I have moments when it all feels a bit overwhelming and sometimes, I cry. But I also have some tried and true tools that I use to help me not only keep my head above water, but truly shine during times of chaos and change.
This is because I believe we all have a CHOICE.
We can choose to allow the turmoil in the world to press in on us, and let fear take hold of us and run our lives…
OR we can choose to OWN our fear and let it guide us to a place of peace, power and positivity.
Last week I hosted a Facebook Live for my online community to share some of my ideas and tried and true tools for navigating these tumultuous times with more grace, grit, presence and power.
If you haven’t dipped your toes into this beautiful online space yet, I’m going to share a few of the potent things I shared there, here.
1. Fear expresses itself in many ways. In my Facebook LIVE I talked about 5 different ways that I’m seeing fear show up right now – both in myself and in others. Here’s what’s super important: Fear is natural, normal and needed. There is nothing wrong with fear itself. It’s okay to feel fearful about what’s happening right now. And it’s super okay to fear the unknown.
2. Set aside your judgments for a moment to honestly and compassionately ask yourself this question: “What am I most afraid of right now?” Get clear on this for yourself so that you can own your fear instead of allowing it to own YOU. When you’re clear on what you fear the most it’s easier to make choices that support yourself through that fear.
3. I invite you to be someone who isn’t contributing or adding to the fear, panic and contraction on the planet right now. You can instead be someone who is contributing to her light, her presence, her power and her poise to the collective experience we are all in. Because we are all in this together, and you can have a positive impact not only on your own experience of this, but you can also have a positive impact on those you love and cherish, too.
4. Here are some practical steps you can take right now to support yourself on every level – including your immune system!
- Get clear on the things that are increasing your fears right now and choose to spend less time engaging with those things. This does not mean you should bury your head in the sand. I invite you to stay informed and connected. Instead, this is an invitation to expose yourself to less of the negativity and fear that doesn’t serve you or your health. This may mean you reduce your exposure to the following:
- The news
- Emails that contain warnings, doom and gloom predictions, etc.
- Social media
- Conversations with others who are operating from a place of very strong fear right now
- Negative thoughts in your own mind
- Health hindering habits
- Travel
- Crowded places, spaces, events
- Anything else that heightens and/or feeds your fears
- Get clear on the things that increase your sense of peace, joy, vitality and health and choose to spend more time engaging with those things. This has less to do with “wishful thinking” and more to do with crowding out the fear, negativity and chaos that is so pervasive right now. Some examples of this are:
- Music
- Positive messaging
- Books
- Mantras
- Tapping – specifically to reduce stress, anxiety, help with sleep, release fears… check out TheTappingSolution.com for more.
- Eating healthy, vibrant, colorful foods
- Taking your supplements
- Quiet time – meditation, contemplation, journaling, art, naps
- Getting enough quality sleep
- Creating a sanctuary for yourself in your home or bedroom – a place of peace, coziness, rest and relaxation
5. Keep your eyes, ears and heart open to the opportunities that are hear for you right now. As most people around you reflexively contract from a place of fear, you can choose to stay open to the gifts – however big or small – that present themselves to you. We are all experiencing this massive shift and change together. Rather than focusing on what isn’t working, what isn’t here, what could happen… ask yourself the following questions: “What is the opportunity that is here for me right now?” and “What is possible for me now that wasn’t possible before?”
6. As Marianne Williamson said, “Isolate socially but don’t isolate emotionally or spiritually.” It’s easy to judge ourselves and others for how we or they are handling the circumstances of today. But instead of clenching your heart towards yourself and others, can you have compassion for your own fear? For how other people’s fears play out? And can you find creating ways to support yourself and one another right now? Things like:
- Sending positive emails and voice messages
- Setting up a virtual gathering or video conference
- Posting positive, beautiful, life-enhancing things on social media
- Being patient, generous and kind with yourself and others as much as you can
I hope this has been helpful to you. I hope you feel that you now have some grounded resources for honoring yourself, honoring others, and negotiating today’s events with more grace and grit and presence and power.
