There are many myths in the health, healing and new age worlds that need to be busted. These myths create limitations on what we believe is possible in the healing process. They also often create a lot of pressure, blame and stress.
The myth I want to bust today is that every disease or illness can be traced to a physical cause.
For instance, if you or someone you know is diagnosed with heart disease, it can be very easy to immediately jump to the conclusion that diet is the primary culprit. And this was, and continues to be, the major focus of most people who receive a diagnosis like this.
But what if the thing that has promoted heart disease is less about what you’re eating, and more about “what’s eating you”? Studies have shown that tension, frustration, and sadness are known to double the risk of a heart attack, and even cause permanent damage to the heart.
Studies have also shown that human biology is significantly impacted by one’s social environment. A person with fewer supportive social interactions has 4 times the risk of contracting the common cold than someone who enjoys frequent social interactions.
You might think that if you’re more social you run the risk of being exposed to a cold or flu virus. But in fact the opposite is true. Increased social contact may actually activate some part of the immune system that creates a heartier resistance to breakdown and infection.
My point here is that we are more complex than our physical bodies, or physical causes, alone. There are many contributing factors when it comes to a loss of health. And, there are many contributing factors when it comes to the restoration of health and the process of healing.
When it comes to healing and realigning ourselves to a state of vitality, beauty and power, it’s important to remember that we are more than just a physical body. We are energy, vibration and rhythm in motion. As such, we have to let go of blaming one cause for our state of health or symptoms.
We have to acknowledge that many, or all aspects of our life may have interfered with the expression and flow of life force within us, and that the “source” of the illness or disease isn’t one-dimensional at all.
This is why my definition of vitality, beauty and power – something I call Transcendent Health – requires us to look at and nourish the complexities of who we are on every level.
The first tier of nourishment is all about nourishing your physical body – with diet, sleep, laughter, hydration, time in nature… and more.
The second tier of nourishment is all about nourishing the many aspects of your life – your relationships, finances, home environment, spirituality, sexuality… and more.
The third tier of nourishment is all about nourishing your heart-mind – learning to manage and elevate your belief systems, the stories you tell yourself, your fears… and more.
And finally, the fourth tier of nourishment is about nourishing your feminine self – through honoring your natural cycles and rhythms, your personal pace, allowing yourself to rest, relax and restore when needed… and more.
It’s much easier to try to control the outcome of an illness or disease by targeting (and blaming) a physical cause. But if disease and illness could be traced back to physical causes alone, we’d see much higher success rates with the cut, burn, poison and/or medicate approach we see practiced in Western medicine today.
When you stand in your Power Spot and start nourishing all of who you are, your vitality inevitably increases and your life comes into harmony and alignment. And when you live from a place of congruency and health, that’s when life really opens up for you and gets really juicy and fun!
With love and Transcendent Health,
Alicia
