A note from Alicia: Last week I received the nudge to write this – for myself, and for every woman. This is my love letter to the feminine body. I feel we need more of these! Many more! Wouldn’t it be amazing to see a stack of love letters to the feminine body from women everywhere? What a different reflection we can give to ourselves, to our bodies, to all of the ill will and conditional love we’ve been taught to give to ourselves! Join me, and write your own love letter to your body, or a love letter to the feminine body. Share it with me if you feel called. ❤
Rising into the beauty of what is
Have you ever taken the time
The earnest and deeply loving time
To thank your body for everything
It does for you?
To love on your body
The vehicle within which
You reside
The place that you feel
And sense and experience
The world around you
A breathing, living miracle
That is a beautiful
And unique reflection of
Who you are
If you were to take a
Moment and listen to
The way you speak to yourself
About yourself
Your body in particular
Would you hear kindness
And words of adoration
And love?
Or would it be a very different
Inner dialogue, one
That you would never
Speak to a friend or lover
Words you would never want
Someone else to speak to you
The feminine body has been
Trapped and buried in shame
For centuries
Told its only purpose is for
Entertainment
Its only value in its beauty
And fertility and ability
To captivate and entice
Reproduce and nurture
Oh how myopic and cruel
Those small measurements
Of worthiness are
How utterly inaccurate
And hateful those standards
Have been
The truth is that the
Feminine body is a vortex
Of power, creativity and
Divine mystery, strength
Perseverance, sensuality
And love
This amazing, powerful body
Is so much more than what
It’s been told it should
And can and ever could be
Consider the journey you
Have traveled in your
Precious body
The blood, sweat
Pleasure, resilience
Emotional connectivity
Strength
And sensual deliberation
Be in awe of what it has lived
Through, all that it has
Done to hold you
Every single day it has
Diligently and without question
Persevering under incredible
Stress and pressure to constantly
Perform at an impossible level
Can you be in celebration of this
Sacred temple within which you reside?
Perhaps if you’d been born into
A world that didn’t hold such steady
Disdain coupled with fascination
And a desire to control
You would know better,
Deep in your bones
That you are a masterpiece of
The highest order
Not made from a man as one
Book would say
Always set as inferior
Perpetually compared
To its masculine counterpart
Made to be the lesser
The anomaly
The enigmatic problem
Always needing to be fixed
But made from stardust and
Brilliance
Made to swoon in delight
And be revered for its
Majesty no matter its
Shape or age
Fertility or ability
As you speak to your body
All this history
All this misogyny
All these erroneous
Reflections of mediocrity
Must be removed from your
Vocabulary and from the very
Eyes you see yourself with
What could be possible if you
No longer accepted the
Shroud of shame that
Has been placed over her
As normal, necessary
And just the way it is
Who says your body is less
And why would you continue
To believe those words to be true?
With fresh eyes that have been
Freed from the strangle hold
Of patriarchy
I invite you to see the perfection
Of your body
And revel in the joy and freedom
That is yours when you offer
Yourself praise
Instead of waiting for someone
Else to give it to you
I invite you to love your body
For all it does every single day
For the life it allows you to live
For the pleasure in it
That is there for you
To discover and revel in daily
Why not write a love letter
To your immaculate body
The one that holds every
Memory, that is a living
Breathing bank of experience
The one that houses every scar
Every mark this life has
Left on you
Why not whisper poetry
And offer it flowers
Dress it in ways that help
It feel cherished and adored
Give it the sensual
Epiphanies it craves and let
It know it is the most important
Desirable, magnificent
Creature alive
Beyond the conditioning
Greater than the fear of inadequacy
Above the din of lies you’ve been fed
Rising into the beauty of what is
You are a masterpiece
A work of living art
Deeply connected to the moon
And the tides
Always changing
Becoming more of what you
Are meant to be
You are meant to be loved
Showered with adoration
Honored and held safe
Seen and celebrated as
The blessing you are
Can you let go of the myth
Of perfection that has wrapped
Itself around your neck
Transcend the expectations
That have bound your hands
Refuse to play this twisted game
That has you turn on yourself
And hate what you see
In the mirror
And instead live this precious life
As the gift you are
Can you conjure the courage
And gather your will
Marry it with your desire
To be free of these chains that
Have held you captive
And instead choose to
Live this precious life
As you are
In all your glory
And power and truth
Can you let yourself be
Hungry and full of lust
Ready to savor the adventures
That come into your life
Never allowing shame
To dim your light or
Feel you have to cover up
And hide
This is a big ask
It may be THE ask of your
Life, of every woman’s life
Oh, but to be free
And fully present to
Your body and to love
It not because it looks
Or performs or seduces
In any certain way
But because it is your home
And you care for and love
Your home
Oh, to finally love yourself
Without condition
Life will thankfully
Never be the same
Have you ever written a love
Letter to your feminine body
The place where you live
The sacred shape you are
The blessed temple that is you?
It’s time
It’s needed
It is long overdue
It is one small way forgiveness
And fortification can begin
Loving the skin you’re in
A love letter to your feminine body
From you
