The shift in seasons happens on many levels. The free-flowing nature of summer gives way to the structured schedule of autumn. The weather is definitely turning cooler here in Colorado, and I’m bundling up a bit more for my morning walks. Heartier root vegetables and gorgeous leafy greens are coming into season, and my body is ready to start eating differently.
Autumn is the season of yellow and orange veggies and fruits, and so my diet becomes really rich in these colors this time of year. I transition my diet by eating more carrots, yams, kale, chard, squash and beans. Apples and pears are now in season, and I’ve started eating more sprouted nuts and seeds, too.
It’s natural for the diet to get a little heavier this time of year, and keeping the foods you eat clean and whole will support your immune system. The energetic nature of the foods that are available this time of year will support you in feeling more “grounded”, and feeling more “grounded will assist you in taking action on the things in your life that need to get accomplished.
As I transition my diet from the free-flowing, lighter foods of summer, to the more strengthening, stamina building foods of autumn, I feel right in alignment with the natural cycle of the seasons. And when I feel in alignment in my body in these ways, everything else follows!
