Our first assignment in Soul Art School is to create a collage that represents a bridge between where we’ve been, or a challenge we’ve been facing, and where we are going – what we are wanting beyond the challenge.
As excited as I am about this art project, I’ve been fighting to make time for it in my full life. I tried twice over the weekend to do work on it at night time after my son had gone to bed – once on my bedroom floor, and once at our dining room table, but I was too tired to get very far.
I‘m learning I require 2 things for this to actually work and be fun in my life: a designated space for my creative endeavors (a space that I actually LOVE and look forward to spending time in), and time during the daylight hours when I can give myself to this kind of thing.
My night time hours need to be about unwinding and nourishing myself, not exploring and creating. Duly noted!
And… I don’t want the lack of a designated space or daylight hours to be my excuses for not making art! So, I looked a bit deeper at my resistance to getting started on this project.
I realized I was really postponing creating art because I had a story going on in my head about how I wanted this experience to be… a story that isn’t actually true.
SO I brought all of magazine and paper clippings into my office space and just STARTED. Isn’t this the key? Just take the next damn step! I didn’t get very far with things, but the energy is starting to MOVE and I’m now excited to keep going, which feels really good!
