The simple things in life are quite often the best.
They’re easy to miss if you’re moving fast, feeling rushed, wanting to be someplace else, waiting for whatever to just be over with, yearning for something that’s already happened or is not yet here…
If we’re not present in the moment, with our body and our senses, we can’t mine these moments for the gold they possess. We can’t appreciate what we’re not aware of.
This is a reminder that your life is happening each moment of every day.
Sure, there will be times when the nuance and beauty will be lost because there are other things that must be tended to.
Yes, there will be periods of time when you need to tune everything out and just be someplace else (hello, Netflix?).
Of course, you get to be human. You get to do what you need to do when you need to do it.
And…
If your life is one big, fast-paced, never-ending treadmill, and you feel like a machine that’s just trying to keep up with it all, then it’s time to ask yourself how much you’re really living.
Because when you can slow down and experience a moment with all your senses, and let your hearts be touched by it, you are reminded that…
You are blessed.
Life can be breathtakingly beautiful.
Well-being abounds.
Goodness can be found wherever we look for it.
The warmth of a child’s hand in your own.
The smell of pancakes cooking on the stove.
The joy of a good night’s sleep and feeling well rested when you wake.
The soft petals of a rose, and their sweet perfume.
The euphoria after a tough workout.
The feeling of the sun and the moon on your skin.
The delight of a furry caterpillar you find on a walk in nature.
The poetic colors of sunrise, sunset, and twilight.
The sound of laughter, even if it’s not your own.
The rush of energy you feel when you take a cold shower or bath.
All these experiences are fleeting moments, here and then gone. Yet, there is an opportunity to sink into them, even if only for a few seconds, and let them fill you up, nourish you, and remind you that the world is a wondrous, mysterious, magical place.
So, this week, I invite you to tune into the simple things. Honor yourself, and life, by noticing, enjoying, and savoring the moments that really count.
There is so much conflict around us, and so many “negative” things constantly vying for our attention.
What if you made a point of rebelling against that trend?
What if you made it your intention to tune into and relish the simple things this week instead?
How might that make all the difference in how you feel about yourself? Life? The world around you?
I dare you to dedicate time this week to sinking into the moment, drinking in the simple things, and letting yourself be reminded of how extraordinary your life really is.
