I’m enjoying a “slow Sunday”, which is the one day every week when I do things at a very slow pace. It often includes things like staying in bed to read and journal until late morning, eating breakfast in bed, getting my art supplies out and playing in my art journal, and an extra long walk with my favorite furry friend, Dinga. I love slow Sundays because they fill me up and replenish me for my week ahead.
I’ve come to really understand and appreciate that replenishing every week is mandatory for me. And truth be told, I feel it’s mandatory for every woman. It may sound like a luxury, but for me it’s actually a non-negotiable and very necessary part of my reality.
Without things like slow Sundays, I start my week feeling fatigued and slightly compromised – meaning I’m not feeling my best, which in turn means I am unable to give my best. I used to think it was selfish and self-involved to take care of myself like this. But now I see that when I take care of me, everyone in my circle of influence benefits.
Over the years I’ve become more and more masterful at recognizing my natural rhythms and requirements and how to honor them in the most exquisite ways possible. But I wasn’t always as in tune with myself as I am today.
I used to over ride the messages my body gave to me, thinking they weren’t important. Now I know that when my body “talks” to me, the most important thing I can do is listen. How did I become adept at listening to my body?
Cleansing on a regular basis has allowed me to hear the wisdom of my body, and as a result I am able to give my body what it needs when it needs it. The outcome? My health and my immunity have skyrocketed, my energy has increased to astronomical heights, and my unique beauty has emerged in ways I couldn’t have even imagined.
There are a lot of cleanses and detoxes on the market today. I love that the idea of cleansing has taken off and people are getting savvy to the notion that cleaning the cellular junk out on a regular basis can lead to improved health and vitality on every level. But some programs are very intense, some don’t taste very good, and some can even lead to fairly severe signs and symptoms of detox.
There are ways to cleanse your body, rid your cells of toxic crud, and nourish your mind and heart in ways that open you up to a greater sense of self and all that’s possible for you. There are ways to feel really good while you’re cleansing, without deprivation, starvation and isolation.
