So many women are looking for the perfect formula for creating and maintaining a slim and healthy body.
The popular idea around how to do this is to only eat all the right things. When you do, your body will get or stay thin, and your health will soar. It makes logical sense, right?
I thought this for years.
But the truth is much different. Because if there is such a thing as the perfect and “right” foods to eat, then there are “wrong” or “bad” foods, too.
Anytime we approach anything from a place of “this is good” and “that is bad”, we get stuck in a polarity that creates a war inside of ourselves.
When we approach food and eating from this place of right and wrong, good and bad, it traps us into feeling good when we do and eat the “right” things, and guilty or bad when we don’t.
This is when our inner perfectionist can come out and wreak havoc on our good intentions. We double down, tell ourselves that we just need more focus, discipline and willpower.
But the truth is, eating in a perfect way isn’t sustainable. It’s unrealistic to think we can be perfect at anything.
Perfect doesn’t exist. It’s made up.
Instead, we want to be able to be fluid, flexible and resilient.
In my many years of coaching women around food and eating, and on my own eating journey, I’ve found the most success happens when we allow ourselves to nourish ourselves from an intuitive place, not a strict and perfectionistic place.
If you’re reading this and nodding your head because you’re caught in a cycle of bingeing and then restricting…
Or “failing” and then punishing yourself…
Or you feel like you’re always about to have your last “good meal” before the restriction begins…
Or you find yourself rebelling and breaking your own rules when it comes to food and eating…
You are caught up in a dieting mindset.
You might feel like you’re constantly at war with food, your appetite and your body, and you’re bouncing back and forth between depriving and splurging all the time.
The way out of this madness is to:
- Tease out the toxic dieting beliefs that have created this war inside of you. They honestly do NOT need to be there anymore.
- Discover which foods support and nourish your unique body best. Because it’s different for each of us, and it changes throughout our lives.
- Learn who it is inside of you that is making the food choices at any given time. Sometimes there is a rebellious teenager or a tantrum-ing 5 year old making all of your food decisions… at other times it’s a tyrannical perfectionist…
The way forward is to activate your inner Benevolent Queen who makes powerful self-honoring choices when it comes to food, her body, and nourishment.
She will know what your body needs and will have no qualms about giving it to you. Because she knows that a well-nourished, deeply supported body is what will help you feel your best.
When you feel good, you are able to do good.
Isn’t that what we all want, in one form or another?
If you’re ready to quit the dieting madness and find a way to achieve and maintain a body that looks and feels good – at any age – there is a way out.
And I’m here to support you in finding your way through.
